Srinagar, Mar 15: Syed Zikra Bukhari, a 15-year-old Class 10 student at Four Friends Public School in Gilli Kadal, Srinagar, has successfully published her debut book after two years of dedicated writing. The young author’s book, centered around the themes of resistance and overcoming setbacks, especially for youth, is a reflection of her own perseverance and determination.
A resident of Handwara, currently living in Channapora, Nowshera, Zikra’s book explores the importance of resilience in the face of adversity. “It took me two years to write this book. It was a difficult journey filled with self-doubt and constant questioning of my own words. But finally, after much perseverance, I have published my first book,” Zikra shared with Rising Kashmir.
In her book, Zikra aims to convey a powerful message about resilience and recovery. “I want to tell people what resistance is—how to get up again after falling repeatedly, how to regain confidence, and move forward. Many young people today give up easily, especially when they fail in exams. They feel their story is over, but I want to tell them that it is not,” she said.
Zikra credits her disciplined approach to her parents, especially her father, Syed Shah Hussain Bukhari, who has been her primary inspiration. “My parents never let me become too attached to social media, which allowed me to focus on writing,” she explained. Her interest in writing sparked at a young age, and it was during Class 5 that she first encountered the novel The Girl in Room 105, which helped her understand the structure of a novel.
The idea for her book took shape during a casual tea-time conversation with her father, who shared stories from his own childhood. “That moment sparked the idea of how I could begin my book. Gradually, I started adding incidents from my own life and those I observed in today’s youth,” Zikra recalled.
Her book also incorporates elements of suspense, and she is considering writing a sequel if there is sufficient demand. She is also keen to explore fiction writing, believing that stories can effectively convey important life lessons.
“My message to the youth is simple: even when you fall repeatedly and feel low, trust in yourself and your abilities. Words have the power to change your life, but they must be used wisely. Stay positive and keep moving forward,” Zikra urged.
Through her debut book, Zikra hopes to inspire young people to embrace challenges, believe in themselves, and keep striving toward their goals despite setbacks.
