Srinagar, Mar 03: Twin sisters from Srinagar have proved their mettle on Russian soil by defeating Russian opponents at their home turf in the ongoing Russian Moscow Stars Wushu International Championship.

The twin sisters, Ansa Chishti and Ayeera Chishti, have also brought laurels to the Jammu and Kashmir valley after winning gold medals in the Russian Moscow Stars Wushu International Championship, which started on 28 Feb and will continue until 5th March 2024.

They both performed outstandingly in their respective weight categories, 52 and 56. They beat their Russian opponents in the finals, bringing fantastic news to all of the J&K Union Territory and the entire sports fraternity of J&K.

The Kashmir valley is reaching new heights in the sports field since the indoor stadium and infrastructure have been upgraded recently. Athletes are being provided with all the best facilities in these indoor stadiums.

They have trained very hard for this significant event, and today their hard work pays off. This is the 3rd international medal for Ayeera; earlier, she won gold in Georgia and bronze in the World Championship in Indonesia. Now, it’s her 3rd consecutive medal in international wushu championships, said her coach.

Last year, one of the sisters was shortlisted for the state award; she was the first wushu female athlete to be shortlisted for this prestigious award, while Ansa won her 2nd medal in international wushu championships. Earlier, she won silver in the Georgia International Wushu Championship, and now she has won her first gold medal in internationals.

Secretary Youth Services and Sports Department Sarmand Hafeez and Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gul have congratulated both sisters for their victory on Russian soil.

“The success of both sisters on Russian soil is proof of the upgradation of sports infrastructure in the Jammu and Kashmir valley,” Sarmand Hafeez said, adding that this is the emerging power of sports, as women are proving their mettle after hard training on foreign soil.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the sports council also said that the upgrading of wushu facilities and the construction of indoor stadiums are proving fruitful.

These girls are proof that our efforts are bearing fruit, as beating foreign athletes on their home soil is not easy; it takes a lot of hard work and training.
