Srinagar, Apr 11: In a significant operation on Tuesday, Srinagar police apprehended three people for running a prostitution racket in the Nowgam area of Srinagar. The raid was conducted following an investigation into the Chanpura case, which led the police to uncover the illegal activity.
The accused have been identified as Shabir Mir of CharliporaNowgam, his wife Shazia Mir, and Adil Gulzar Hazar of Soura. Two customers and a sex worker, all locals, were also detained at the scene.
The police acted promptly and arrested the accused on the spot. In a tweet, the Srinagar police said that the investigation into the Chanpura case had led them to uncover the prostitution racket in the Nowgam area.
Recently, the police had arrested eight individuals for running a similar prostitution racket in the Bagh-e-Mehtab area of Srinagar. The main accused were booked under the Public Safety Act, and the house where the racket was busted was seized by the police.
The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods and have assured swift action against those involved in illegal activities. They have also directed landlords to verify all tenants within 10 days, failing which action will be initiated, and have warned the landlord.
The locals in Srinagar have praised the police action against those involved in the crime and demanded strict action against them.
It is crucial to report on such illegal activities and create awareness among the people to help the police maintain law and order in the valley.
