Srinagar, Jan 24: As India prepares to celebrate its 76th Republic Day, the city of Srinagar has come alive with a vibrant display of patriotism. Several prominent government buildings were illuminated in the colors of the national flag, creating a stunning spectacle that captivated both locals and tourists. Key structures such as the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Civil Secretariat, Ganta Ghar, LD Hospital, and nearly every government building in the city sparkled with festive lights, casting a warm glow that added to the patriotic atmosphere.
The illuminated buildings attracted many onlookers, who paused to capture the mesmerizing sight on their phones, sharing in the joy of the special occasion. Tourists visiting Srinagar expressed their pride in witnessing the city’s patriotic transformation. One tourist remarked, “It’s a wonderful sight. The whole city looks so beautiful, and it fills us with pride to see the tricolour everywhere. Republic Day is a reminder of our nation’s strength and unity.”
The Civil Secretariat, a key administrative center in the valley, stood out as one of the most strikingly illuminated buildings. Aisha Bano, another tourist, shared her thoughts: “Every year, Republic Day reminds us of our country’s progress and the sacrifices made for our freedom. It’s a day to reflect on our shared history and love for the nation.”
The festive lighting in Srinagar will continue every evening until January 29, as the city prepares for the Republic Day celebrations, which will culminate in the Beating the Retreat ceremony. This year’s Republic Day parade theme, “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat Aur Vikas,” highlights India’s commitment to both democracy and development.
January 26 marks the day when India officially adopted its Constitution in 1950, establishing itself as a sovereign republic. The occasion also honours Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the drafting committee that played a pivotal role in shaping India’s democratic framework.
