Shia Associations hail the govt move
SRINAGAR, JULY 14: The District Administration of Srinagar has granted permission for the 8th Muharram procession to proceed through its traditional route from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via BudshahKadal and M.A Road.
The decision was confirmed by an order issued by District Magistrate Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhatom Sunday.
The order states that the decision followed an application from the Yaadgar-i-Hussaini Committee, which sought approval for the procession. The District Magistrate’s office consulted with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar and received a no-objection certificate from the SSP ,subject to several conditions.
The conditions include ensuring no activities during the procession are prejudicial to the security and sovereignty of the state, and prohibiting the display of flags or emblems with provocative slogans, images of terror outfits, or logos of banned organizations. The organizers must comply with all regulations and cooperate with local police and security agencies.
The permission, granted to the Yaadgar-i-Hussaini Committee, KalooManzilMohalla Guru Bazar, allows the procession from 6:00 am to 8:00 am on July 15, 2024. The specified time window aims to minimize disruptions to business establishments, ambulances, students, office staff, and general passengers along the route.
Prominent Shia organizations have welcomed the government’s decision, recognizing the significance of the Jaloos of Hazrat Imam Hussain A.S. for the Shia community and appreciating the respect shown for their sentiments.
The procession marks a significant observance for the Shia community, and the administration’s decision to allow it reflects a balance between cultural traditions and public order.
