SPORTS FOR ALL:YSS Hosts Sports Events for Specially-Abled Youth, Others

Srinagar, May 16: Under the aegis of the department of Youth Services and Sports Anantnag, the sports events not only showcased exceptional youth talent from various zones but also gave special emphasis to inclusive participation by specially-abled youth, affirming the department’s commitment to holistic development through sports.
At the district level, U-17 Inter-Zonal competitions in Badminton, Chess, and Table Tennis concluded successfully at SRJ HSS Khanabal. Boys competed in Badminton, while Chess and T.T. events were held for Girls. In Badminton U-17 Boys Shan Ifham and Sehran Khalil from Zone Anantnag, Zehran Feroz from Zone Qazigund displayed incredible performance. In Chess U-17 Girls Aliza Shakeel & Duha Ishtiyaq from Zone Anantnag, Fatima Bint Shabir from Zone Mattan performed exceptionally. In Table Tennis U-17 Girls Rutba Shabir and Aisha Sidiqa from Zone Verinag, Zuha Nisar from Zone Anantnag delivered remarkable performances.
Meanwhile In a heartwarming initiative, Zone Achabal organised a special event at Fisheries Park Achabal exclusively for specially-abled students and youth. The ZPEO interacted with the participants, encouraging them and appreciating their enthusiasm and love for sports. The event concluded with medal and refreshment distribution, leaving an inspiring mark on the day’s celebrations.
Zone Bijbehara hosted Yoga competitions for U-14 and U-17 boys at BMHSS Bijbehara. Top performers included Ifraz Khursheed, Zeeshan Rashid from MS NB Veeri, Farhan Bilal from MS Aswora, Abid Hameed from HS Jablipora, Suhaib Showkat from BMHSS Bijbehara, and Basharat Bashir from HS HP Bagh. *Zone Bidder* conducted an AAG Boys Yoga competition at HSS Kokernag, with Yawar Asif from HS Sagam emerging as the standout performer. 112 students participated with great enthusiasm.
Zone Srigufwara organised Inter-School Yoga competitions for U-14 and U-17 boys and girls at MS Budroo, with a total of 155 participants. Zone Doru held U-14 and U-17 Girls’ Football tournaments at Shankerpora Stadium with a massive turnout of 420 participants. Zone Achabal hosted Baseball tournaments for U-14 and U-17 girls at HSS Dialgam, witnessing participation from 220 girls.
Zone Qazigund held U-17 Boys’ Football competition at HS Damjan. In a thrilling final, HSS Vessu defeated HS Damjan 1–0, thanks to a match-winning goal by Faidu Fayaz. 165 students participated, taking a sports pledge and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.
