Katra, July 2: Cadet Saher Sharma from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) had the distinct honour of participating in the Special National Integration Camp (SNIC), held in Srinagar. The camp served as a vibrant confluence of culture, discipline and national unity, bringing together NCC cadets from across India in the scenic heart of the Kashmir.A statement issued to Rising Kashmir said that representing the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh (JK&L) Directorate, Cadet Saher captivated audiences during the inter-directorate song competition with her soulful renditions of Dogri, Ladakhi and Kashmiri songs—beautifully showcasing the region’s rich and diverse heritage. She also took part in a grand demonstration marking International Yoga Day on 21st June and contributed actively in inter-directorate volleyball matches.A key member of the JK&L cultural team, Cadet Saher performed traditional folk dances during the Group Dance Competition, further underlining the vibrancy of the region’s culture. The cadets also explored iconic landmarks including the War Memorial, Pani Mandir, Dharohar Museum, FOD Museum, the Mughal Gardens, Shankaracharya Temple, and the Pratap Singh Museum. A peaceful shikara ride on Dal Lake and an adventurous excursion to Sonamarg—featuring a live demonstration of mountaineering techniques on snow—were among the camp’s memorable experiences. A major highlight of the camp was the cultural performance before eminent dignitaries including the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Additional Director General (ADG) of the JK&L Directorate. Cadet Saher was one of only six cadets selected for the camp’s opening act—a graceful Ganesh Vandana that set the tone for the entire evening.
