Jammu, April 04: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), the medical college of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), has achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of its cutting-edge Skill and Simulation Lab.
This advanced facility, equipped with the latest technology, provides an immersive platform for hands-on medical training and skill development. Designed to benefit faculty members, MBBS and nursing students, as well as paramedical staff, the lab aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ultimately enhancing patient care.
The Chief Executive Officer of SMVDSB, Anshul Garg, inaugurated the facility in the presence of Alok Kumar Maurya, Additional CEO; Dr Gopal Sharma, Assistant CEO, SMVDSB; Dr Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME and Associated Hospital; and the Principals of GMC Kathua and GMC Doda, alongside other senior officials and staff. Following the inauguration, a guided tour showcased the high-fidelity training equipment, which leverages advanced technology to simulate real-world medical scenarios. This hands-on approach allows trainees to refine their skills in a controlled and safe environment.
On the occasion, CEO Anshul Garg expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of SMVDSB (Lt Governor of J&K UT) for his unwavering support in approving the Rs 350-crore infrastructural plan for the medical college. This ambitious initiative includes the development of a state-of-the-art Academic and Administrative Block, faculty and student accommodations, and the expansion of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, increasing its capacity by 250 beds. A key objective is to raise the medical college’s intake capacity from 50 to 100 seats, in alignment with the Shrine Board’s vision. The CEO commended the Executive Director and his team for their efforts in establishing the facility, emphasising the transformative role of simulation-based learning in medical education. He highlighted that the facility will not only train medical students but also equip Shrine Board employees with Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, ensuring optimal care for pilgrims visiting the Holy Shrine. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director, SMVDIME, extended his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the project. He underscored the institute’s commitment to excellence in medical education, stating that this facility will provide a dynamic learning environment where students, interns, and healthcare professionals can refine their skills, ultimately improving patient care outcomes.
