Katra, Dec 11: The School of Energy Management at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, in collaboration with UMPEDAC, University of Malaya, Wednesday conducted a prestigious one-day International Workshop on Renewable Energy for Carbon Neutrality.
The event united leading academics, researchers, and professionals from across the globe to explore innovative renewable energy strategies and solutions for achieving global climate goals and addressing the challenges of carbon neutrality.
The workshop was convened by Dr. Vineet V. Tyagi, Head of the School of Energy Management, and co-convened by Dr. Sanjeev Anand, both Associate Professors at SMVDU. Dr. Yatheshtha Anand served as the Organizing Secretary. In his opening remarks, Dr. Tyagi highlighted the significance of transitioning to renewable energy, emphasizing the critical role of solar energy in addressing climate change. He noted that the event offered an invaluable platform for students and faculty to exchange ideas and identify practical pathways to achieving carbon neutrality.
The workshop’s keynote address was delivered by Prof. Jeyraj Selvaraj, Executive Director of UMPEDAC, University of Malaya, on the topic “Carbon Neutrality through Solar Energy-Based Systems.” Prof. Selvaraj presented groundbreaking research on solar energy technologies, including photovoltaic systems and solar thermal solutions, and their role in reducing carbon emissions and driving sustainable energy transitions.
Prominent speakers from renowned institutions enriched the workshop with their insights. Dr. Sounthisack Phommachanh from the National University of Laos discussed advancements in thermal energy storage systems, while Prof. Tran Sy Nam from Can Tho University, Vietnam, highlighted renewable energy policies and their implementation challenges. Prof. Deepak Pathania from the Central University of Jammu (J&K) and Prof. Ashutosh Vashishtha from SMVDU provided perspectives on energy financing and emerging innovations in the renewable energy sector.
The event also included interactive discussions and panel sessions that addressed global and regional challenges in implementing renewable energy initiatives, focusing on policy frameworks, technological advancements, and academia-industry collaborations. Dr. Sanjeev Anand, co-convener of the event, emphasized the vital role of partnerships between academia and industry in driving innovation and scaling up renewable energy technologies.
Dr. Yatheshtha Anand, Organizing Secretary, expressed his gratitude to the participants and the organizing team, stating, “The outcomes of this workshop will serve as a roadmap for future research and innovation in renewable energy technologies, helping to accelerate the global transition towards sustainability and carbon neutrality.”
