Srinagar, Jan 04: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner, Dr. Owais Ahmed announced that the city is fully equipped to handle snowfall this winter, with a robust roadmap and upgraded machinery to ensure efficient snow clearance.
With 1,500 kilometers of roads and 5,500 lanes and bylanes under its jurisdiction, the SMC has streamlined its operations. Major roads are cleared mechanically, while lanes and bylanes are managed manually.
The commissioner highlighted the corporation’s proactive approach during recent snowfall. “Our men and machinery sprang into action immediately,” he said.
To address waterlogging, the SMC has deployed 127 drainage pumps across the city.
Introducing modern tools, the SMC has stationed 4×4 machines capable of clearing narrow lanes in each ward and is trialing semi-manual handheld snow blowers to enhance efficiency further.
Reassuring residents, the commissioner said, “Our control room and social media platforms are active for public assistance. The SMC is fully prepared, and our teams are on standby to minimize inconvenience during the winter.”
With its upgraded equipment and comprehensive plan, the SMC is committed to ensuring smooth movement and public safety throughout the snowy season.
