Srinagar, Aug 01: Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr Owais Ahmed on Thursday inaugurated the Swachhata Pakhwada Campaign at S K Park here, launching a 15-day initiative focused on cleanliness and environmental sustainability. The campaign aims to improve cleanliness across various sectors, including residential areas, public spaces, water bodies, markets, schools, colleges, hospitals, religious places, transportation hubs, and government offices.
The inaugural event at S.K Park featured a series of engaging activities to educate and involve the community. Highlights included a stage play emphasizing the importance of Swachhata (cleanliness) and a pledge ceremony where participants committed to maintaining cleanliness in their daily lives. The event also celebrated Safaimitras and organizations that have significantly contributed to cleanliness and environmental conservation through a felicitation ceremony.
The Commissioner expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign, stating, “We are dedicated to fostering a culture of cleanliness and sustainability in Srinagar City. The Swachhata Pakhwada reflects our commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more livable environment for all residents.” Dr Owais said the planned activities and initiatives would raise awareness and encourage active community participation.
Senior officers from SMC joined Dr Owais in supporting this significant initiative. The event also saw participation from Global Volunteers and residents, with White Global as a supporting partner. Various social organizations were encouraged to actively engage in the Swachhata Pakhwada events, with the collective goal of building a cleaner, greener, and healthier Srinagar for current and future generations.
