SRINAGAR: There has been an increase in the number of candidates from Jammu and Kashmir cracking the UPSC civil services exams.
For the first time, 16 aspirants from Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory qualified for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022 the results of which were announced on May 23 by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
A total of 933 candidates – 613 men and 320 women – have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services. Out of these, 16 candidates are from Jammu and Kashmir.
In 2009, Shah Faesal became the first aspirant from the region to top the civil services examination across the country.
In the UPSC 2022 exam, Waseem Ahmad Bhat from Dooru Anantnag secured 7th rank, Prasanjeet Kour from Poonch district got 11th rank, Nittin Singh 32nd rank, and Naveed Ahsan Bhat 84th.
However, other 12 candidates have also qualified for the Civil Services Examination in 2022, which is very high as compared to the previous years.
In 2022, eight candidates from Jammu qualified for the exam. In 2021, nine candidates from J&K cracked the UPSC examination. In 2020, 16 aspirants from the Union Territories (UTs) of J&K and Ladakh qualified among which three were from Ladakh.
Eleven candidates from J&K qualified in 2011; 10 in 2012; 11 in 2013, 10 in 2014; 9 in 2015; 14 in 2016, 14 candidates in 2017, and 15 candidates in 2018.
