Srinagar, Sep 11: Faculty of Horticulture at SKUAST-Kashmir proudly initiated a week-long Rural Exploration Programme to the enchanting Gurez Valley.
Situated in the northernmost reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Gurez Valley is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and the warm hospitality of its residents.
Sponsored by IDP-NAHEP, this program marks a significant endeavor towards experiential learning, community engagement, and fostering cultural exchange. It offers our students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the challenges faced by rural communities in their pursuit of livelihoods.
During this journey, our students will actively participate in hands-on learning experiences encompassing community development initiatives and sustainable agricultural practices, among other essential facets of rural life. This Rural Exploration Programme underscores our unwavering commitment to holistic education, extending far beyond the confines of traditional classrooms, and prepares our students for the diverse and interconnected world they will encounter.
Speaking at the program’s flag-off ceremony, Prof. Shabir Hussain Wani, Dean of the Faculty of Horticulture at SKUAST-Kashmir, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor for generously sponsoring this educational odyssey. He emphasized that such initiatives epitomize the university’s dedication to providing students with a well-rounded education that transcends textbooks.
This program not only provides an opportunity for our students to learn from the people of Gurez but also encourages them to contribute to the betterment of the local community. We believe that this immersive experience will broaden their horizons, instill values of empathy and responsibility, and equip them with the skills needed to tackle real-world challenges across various spheres of life.
