SKUAST-K workshop on CA Storage, Processing: Expert calls for developing post-harvest management technologies

Srinagar, Dec 15: A one-week training program on “Opportunities in CA Storage and Processing of Horticulture Produce” is going on at SKUAST-K, Shalimar. The program is being organized by the Division of Food Science and Technology and sponsored by MSME, Government of India.
The training is part of initiatives being taken by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai for strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture and allied sectors. The aim of the workshop is to aware the apple growers, CA store owners and food processors of the opportunities in CA storage and processing of apples. 
The speakers from industry, financial institutions, and academia from within and outside the Union Territory have been invited to deliberate upon prospectuses in postharvest management and processing of apples. The program comprises technical sessions as well as practical demonstrations. The participants include industry personnel, CA store operators/owners and young graduates desirous of setting up their units in this field. The inaugural ceremony was conducted on December 12 in the conference hall of the Vice Chancellor’s secretariat. The ceremony commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Imtiyaz Ah. Zargar, SMS, KVK Pulwama. 
The chief guest Prof. H.R. Naik (Director Planning & Monitoring, SKUAST-K) in his address laid emphasis on the development of technologies for post-harvest management and value addition of horticultural crops and also encouraged the participants to come up with start-up ideas. He congratulated the organizers for conducting such awareness training programs. Dr. Sajad Mohd. Wani, Associate professor, the Division of Food Science and Technology, gave a detailed overview of the training program. The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Masarat Shafi, Professor, Division of Food Science and Technology.
