Srinagar, Oct 10: An educational cum exposure visit of students of Burn Hall School, Srinagar (class 11th and 12th) on 9th and 10th October 2024 to SKUAST Kashmir, Shalimar, Srinagar was organized by Directorate of Extension SKUAST-K in which more than 50 students along with their teachers and scientists of the varsity participated.
Vice Chancellor Prof. N.A. Ganai was the chief guest on the occasion. The students were welcomed at Directorate of Extension, by worthy Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi.
At the outset, Vice Chancellor Prof. N.A. Ganai highlighted the achievements of University and advised the students to set goals for their lives to do something significant for the society. Giving the example of some of the eminent scientists from India like Dr. M.S. Swaminathan (father of Green Revolution), he encouraged the students to embark the path of acquiring knowledge for the service of society.
Referring to the revolutionary development made in computer science, Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning, he emphasized on the change of role of teachers who would now become guide and mentors in addition to their usual teaching. To the young budding minds Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, informed that the university has introduced new courses based on artificial intelligence and data science in collaboration with other leading institutes of the country like IITs. He also stressed that the young minds should acquire and adopt human values for being a successful human being and excel in their lives.
He appreciated the efforts put in by teachers for coordinating and facilitating the visit of students from far-flung areas to the University. Students put many questions to the scientists present in the programme and good interaction took place between them .
Mr. Jehangeer, Lecturer from the school thanked Honourable Vice Chancellor and Director Extension in addition to other staff of university for making their visit successful. He sought the coopertion of university in getting the students exposed to the university developments in future aslo. The other speakers on the occasion were Prof. Lyaqat Ali, Prof. Poonam Sharma, Prof. Purshotam Singh, Prof. Farahnaaz Rasool and Professor S.K. Raina. Students also visited different research units of the University where various technologies were showcased to them including a demonstrated on use of drone technology in agriculture.
