SKUAST-K holds ‘Research and Extension Advisory Committee’ meet

Srinagar, Jan 21: The 53rd Research and Extension Advisory Committee (REAC) meeting for Kharif 2023 of SKUAST-K was conducted today at Directorate of Extension.
The meeting conducted under the chairmanship of Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K was also attended by Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension, Prof. H.R. Naik, Director Strategic Planning and Monitoring, Prof. M.N. Khan, Director Education, Deans and Associate Deans of various faculties, HoDs, Heads of KVKs and officers/officials from various line departments.
The purpose of said meeting was to take feedback of the minikit trails laid in various districts to be recommended for release before the University Variety Release Committee (UVRC).
The meeting also reviewed the coordination with line departments, discussed new proposals in agriculture and allied sectors; besides receiving feedback from representatives of line departments regarding various issues to be addressed by SKUAST-K. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai was in an online mode, stressed upon the importance of REAC and duly acknowledged the efforts of various units of the University in overall development of agriculture sector.
Prof. Ganai called for changing the subsistence agriculture into commercial and sustainable one. He also emphasized upon development of technologies that would be helpful in reducing the cost of cultivation, increase resource use efficiency and at the same time promoting Cyber Extension through different ICT tools and models.
He also emphasized on research and extension activities in collaboration with the line departments for the welfare of the farming community of this region. Earlier starting the proceedings of REAC, Director Extension Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi presented a detailed report of the various outreach activities undertaken during the year.
He highlighted the progress made by the constituent units of SKUAST-K on various agenda items and fresh proposals put forth by them for the year 2022-23. Prof. Makhdoomi told that University has been working in close cooperation with the State Government in its various pro-people and pro-farming initiatives like Back to Village Programme, management and control of Lumpy Skin Disease and in celebration of important days and events.
The representatives of development departments viz Joint Director (Extension) from department of Agriculture, Jenab Mohammad Syed appreciated the role of SKUAST-K in enhancing the production and productivity of different crops in this region by coming up with different varieties. Additional Director Sericulture called upon the University authorities to help the department in their human resource development by providing the technical know-how to their field functionaries. ADC Horticulture, Principal Scientist CITH appreciated the efforts of SKUAST-K for conduct of statutory meetings and assured the University of all possible cooperation.
