Kupwara, Aug 07: College of Temperate Sericulture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Mirgund, in collaboration with the Sericulture Development Department of Jammu and Kashmir organized training cum demonstration program in District Kupwara. The program was conducted under the project “Economic Empowerment of Seri-farmers through Technology Adoption,” which is funded by the Jammu and Kashmir Tribal Affairs Department. At the onset, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat, principal investigator of the project, highlighted the importance of sericulture and its potential to enhance the livelihoods of tribal farmers, especially women folk. The program aimed to disseminate sericulture technologies among farmers to improve their socio-economic status. During the event, essential rearing appliances, chemicals, bed disinfectants and other items were distributed to thirty tribal sericulture farmers of the district. The program was attended by scientists from the College of Temperate Sericulture, Mirgund, officials from the Sericulture Development Department (J&K) and tribal farmers from District Kupwara.
At the end, Dr. Firdose Ahmad Malik, Assistant Professor and Co-Investigator of the project, expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir Commissioner Secretary of the Tribal Affairs Department (J&K), Director Research, SKUAST-Kashmir and Director General, Sericulture Development Department (J&K) for their support and encouragement. This event served as a valuable platform for the direct dissemination of sericulture technologies, fostering knowledge exchange and practical implementation among the tribal farmers of District Kupwara.
