Srinagar, May 2: SKIMS Medical College and Hospital has achieved a major milestone by conducting its first Fetoreduction procedure, performed through a seamless collaboration between the departments of Radiodiagnosis and Gynaecology. Team of department of Radiodiagnosis and a team of Gynaecologists jointly decreased two fetuses in quadruple pregnancy to two to decrease the risk to mother and other two fetuses.
Head of the Department (HoD), Radiodiagnosis said that Fetoreduction is a delicate and specialised intervention aimed at improving outcomes in high-risk multiple pregnancies. He elaborated that fetal reduction is a medical procedure used when a woman is pregnant with more than two babies, like triplets or more. To lower the risk to the mother’s health and help the remaining babies grow better and healthier, doctors may reduce the number of babies, usually to two. This helps increase the chances of a safer and more successful pregnancy for both the mother and the babies.
Principal SKIMS MC Bemina congratulated and appreciated the team for achieving the milestone in fetoreduction with an excellent outcome. “This landmark success reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred healthcare,” he added.
