Srinagar, Nov 08: In a significant move to dismantle the terror support systems in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the J&K Police launched a series of coordinated searches at 22 locations on Wednesday. These operations were conducted simultaneously in the regions of Kashmir and New Delhi.*
A spokesperson for the J&K Police revealed that the pre-dawn searches targeted 22 locations, including 18 in Srinagar, one each in Anantnag and Pulwama in Kashmir, and two in the national capital, Delhi. The special teams of SIA executed these searches, resulting in the seizure of substantial incriminating evidence.*
The seized materials included bank documents, cash books, credit cards, debit cards, cheque books, invoices, mobile phones, SIM cards, and passports, among other items. All these materials will be meticulously analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case under scrutiny pertains to the illegal raising, layering, and laundering of illegal proceeds of crime by the accused individuals. These illicit funds might have been subsequently employed in activities linked to secessionism and terrorism.
The spokesperson said, “the case was registered in the SIA Kashmir police station following an initial inquiry. During this inquiry, it was discovered that a substantial sum of INR 85 crore had been raised and laundered within a short span of less than two years.”
Notably, many of these transactions were executed in cash, likely to evade detection by law enforcement agencies.*
Based on the findings of the inquiry, a First Information Report (FIR) No 08 of 2023 was registered under the relevant sections of the law. Raids were conducted under the authority of search warrants issued by the Special Designated National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court. These operations were carried out to gather evidence crucial to the ongoing investigation in this case.*
