Kashmir valley is wooing the G20 summit delegates with its distinct and unique  forms of culture , tradition,  arts and crafts. The atmosphere continues to be decked up and  exuberant  across Kashmir valley especially Srinagar , after the arrival of G20 guests from 20 countries across the world participating in the Tourism Working Group meeting which began on Monday.

The ongoing Summit is expected to boast  Kashmir’s art and craft industry  and promote the same at the international level.

On the first day of meeting the delegates visited the Art and Craft Bazaar organised at Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC) by the administration, unveiling  local handicrafts and enchanting work of artisans.

The lawns of the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC) on Monday came alive with the vibrant colors and exquisite craftsmanship of Kashmir’s rich handicraft heritage, as the much-awaited Handicraft Exhibition unfolded on the first day of the 3rd G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting.

The delegates from 20 countries were spellbound by the stunning display of Kashmir’s renowned handicrafts, showcasing the region’s cultural opulence and artistic finesse.

From the luxurious Pashmina shawls, hand woven carpets, and finely carved walnut wood masterpieces to the traditional Kangris (fire pots), Papier-mâché art, and delicate hand-embroidered textiles, the exhibition presented a tapestry of Kashmir’s artisanal brilliance.

Director Handloom & Handicrafts, Kashmir Mehmood Ahmad Shah told Rising Kashmir that the delegates showed a keen interest in exploring the unique craftsmanship and understanding the cultural significance behind each exquisite creation. They interacted with the skilled artisans while gaining insights into the centuries-old techniques passed down through generations, he said.

“One of the highlights of the exhibition was the iconic Pashmina shawls, renowned worldwide for their unrivaled softness and intricate embroidery”, Mehmood said, adding that Delegates marveled at the meticulous craftsmanship involved in creating these luxurious masterpieces, appreciating the skill and dedication of the Kashmiri weavers.

He revealed that the  Papier-maché art pieces, adorned with vibrant colors and delicate motifs, also captured the attention of the delegates. They were intrigued by the elaborate process involved in crafting these unique artifacts, recognizing them as a symbol of Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage, he added.

Mehmood further said that the traditional Kangris, known for their functionality and significance in Kashmir’s harsh winters, drew curious glances from the delegates as they were fascinated by the ingenuity behind these handmade fire pots, which provide warmth and comfort during the chilly months.

As the exhibition continues throughout the duration of the G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting, the delegates eagerly look forward to exploring more of Kashmir’s rich handicraft heritage and forging meaningful connections with the talented artisans who have preserved these timeless traditions,  Mehmood said.

The splendour of Kashmir’s Art and Craft industry has always  been unparalleled having made its mark across the globe with its unique and captivating designs leaving people smitten.

The stakeholders and all those associated with the  handicraft industry are pinning high hopes on G20 meet for boosting and promoting the same across the globe .

On Tuesday, May 23  the delegates are scheduled to visit a few locations which includes  Kashmir Arts Emporium, Polo View Market to take a tour of  handicrafts of Kashmir that would be showcased during their visits to these places.
Pertinent to mention here, polo view market was recently renovated under smart city project plan to give it a fascinating look of first of its kind pedestrian market ahead of G20 summit .

“The ongoing g20 summit will surely play an important role in pushing up international tourism. It is a positive step for all stakeholders in the tourism industry. A positive message will be sent across the globe,”  President Poloview market association, Ismael Ahmad

“The handicrafts of Kashmir will get recognition at the international level,” he added.

Sheikh Hamdaan who deals with the business of handicrafts expressed great hopes on the ongoing G20 meet.
He said, “ It is a big and historic event and is likely to provide Kashmir a distinct recognition at a global level. The event will promote the tourism sector of Kashmir and give it a huge push to flourish Kashmir’s rich culture and traditions.”
