Srinagar, Apr 09: Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam announced on Tuesday evening that the crescent for the month of Shawwal has been sighted in Jammu and Kashmir.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday. The decision was made based on sufficient evidence gathered from various parts of J&K regarding the crescent sighting.
He said, the consultative committee, led by the Grand Mufti and including members such as Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, MoulanaRehmatullahQasimi, Moulana Abdul LateefAlqandi, GhulamRasoolHami, and ulemas from Jammu and Chenab valley, unanimously concluded that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Wednesday.
Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam extended Eid greetings to the Muslim Ummah, particularly to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, wishing for joy, happiness, peace, and prosperity on this auspicious occasion.
In his appeal, the Grand Mufti urged Muslims to celebrate Eid with simplicity, stressing the importance of not losing sight of the true essence of Eid amidst the modern trappings of fashion and enjoyment.
