Baramulla, Oct 29: Shaheedi Diwas, a day of remembrance for the martyrs of 1947, was observed with reverence at Gurudwara Shaheed Marg Satrina in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
This solemn occasion paid tribute to the victims of the tragic events that unfolded in October 1947 when Kabaili tribesmen attacked Kashmir, resulting in the loss of numerous innocent lives, including women and children.
Gurudwara Shaheed Marg holds deep historical significance as it served as a rallying point for the local population when the Kabailies invaded Kashmir. From here, the people united and marched towards the city, ultimately giving their lives in the process.
During the observance, Kirtan, devotional hymns, were performed by the ragies to honour the memory of the martyrs. The gurudwara committee made special arrangements for devotees to participate in the commemorative event.
Addressing the gathering, GPC President PP Singh said, “We will never forget the sacrifice of our people, who laid down their lives. This land belongs to those martyrs, and our existence today is a testament to their sacrifices.”
Another devotee shared, “All Kashmiri people suffered immense losses during that time, and we will never forget those martyrs.”
In a heartfelt display of respect, all the devotees and the Gurudwara committee paid their tributes to the martyrs. Following the event, langar (community meal) was served to the devotees.
Furthermore, a similar ceremony was held in the Chandoosa village of Baramulla district, where heartfelt tributes were paid to the martyrs, further honouring their memory.
