Srinagar, Apr 04: The authorities on Tuesday said that Srinagar-Jammu national highway will remain closed for traffic on April 7 as traffic dry day.
Senior superintendent of Police Traffic Ramban, Mohita Sharma said that highway will remain closed for repair and maintenance work from April 7 till April 8 morning.
“Based on J&K UT Government directions passed on March 31,.2023 for undertaking important repair and maintenance works on NH-44 by NHAI, April 7, 2023 has been declared Traffic Dry Day between Nashri to Navyuga Tunnel”, she said.
She also said no LMV or HMV (except medical emergency vehicles) will be allowed to ply on NH-44 between Nashri Tunnel towards Navyuga Tunnel and vice-versa from 06 AM on 07th April till 06 AM on 08th April.
A traffic police spokesman said that NHW remained blocked for 02 hrs. 09 mins due to shooting stones at Panthyal/Cafeteria.
” NAVYUG Tunnel closed for 02 hours 58 mins and C-N Tunnel closed for 01 hour 21 mins by Tunnel authorities, making the total blockage of 06 hours 28 mins. Also slow movement on NH-44 due to breakdown of 03 HMVs between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel,” he said.
The spokesman said on Wednesday subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar highway. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall be liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, he said.
On Srinagar Leh road, there will be one way traffic allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil. LMV’s vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg at 0700 hrs. upto 0830 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing
Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chain to gain more grip on the slippery road, the spokesman said.
On Tuesday weather conditions improved in Kashmir, while the local Meteorological Department has forecasted inclement weather to continue during the next few days in the region.
Deputy Director MeT, Mukhtar Ahmad said as expected widespread light rain lashed Kashmir and isolated places in Jammu region including Banihal-Batote, Doda-Kishtawar area.
“From April, 5-6 , we are expecting brief spell of rain at scattered places of J&K towards late afternoon, evening,” he said.
Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Tuesday issued an avalanche warning for Kupwara districts in the Union Territory, advising people against venturing out into the avalanche-prone areas.
“Avalanche with Low Danger Level is likely to occur above 2800 metres above sea level over Kupwara district in next 24 hours,” he said.
The spokesman said that people living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders.
