JAMMU, May 24: Seven persons died while three others were injured in a tragic road accident that took place near Dangderu area of Kishtwar on Wednesday morning.
“The vehicle rolled down the hill,” SSP Kishtwar, Khalil Poswal told Rising Kashmir, while adding, “seven persons died in the accident, while three others were injured, one of them is critical.”
Two of the injured were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for advanced treatment, the SSP said and added that one person is critical, while the other is stable.
Among the deceased, two are from Jharkhand, two from Doda, while three are from Kishtwar. Those travelling in the vehicle, were workers and labourers in PakkalDul Power Project. The vehicle was on its way to Sibbadbatti from Ikhala. It rolled down the hill when it reached near Dangderu.
The SSP said the injured were rushed to the hospital by the rescuers with the help of the locals. The accident took place amid rain while the vehicle, after rolling down the hill, was damaged and reduced to scrap.
LG expresses grief
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Kishtwar.
In a condolence message, the Lt Governor said: “I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and wish those injured a speedy recovery. I have instructed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons”.
