Srinagar, May 12: In view of the prevailing situation, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced that schools and colleges in non-border districts of the union territory will reopen on Tuesday, May 13. This decision was confirmed by the Minister of Education, Sakina Ittoo, who shared the update on her official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Educational institutions in non-border districts, including Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Ramban in the Jammu Division, are set to resume operations. However, schools and colleges in border districts such as Kupwara, Baramulla, and the Gurez sub-division in Bandipora will remain closed due to ongoing security concerns.
The Director of School Education, Dr. Naseem Javed Choudhary, confirmed that all government and private schools in the aforementioned districts will reopen on May 13. Conversely, institutions in Kathua, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Udhampur districts will remain closed.
Regarding higher education, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director of Colleges, J&K Higher Education Department, announced that all government degree colleges, except those in border districts, will reopen on May 13.
In an official notice, Dean of Academic Affairs NIT Srinagar said they will continue online classes until June 6, with physical classes scheduled to commence on June 11.
The University of Kashmir has stated that regular classwork across all campuses will resume on Wednesday, May 14. However, students residing in border areas or outside the union territory are advised to join from Monday, May 19. Similarly, the University of Jammu had previously announced the postponement of all examinations scheduled up to May 18 due to ongoing border disturbances.
Earlier, on May 8, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in Rajouri had also postponed all examinations scheduled between May 13 and May 17, citing similar security concerns.
