Jammu, Oct 31: In order to help local artisans, weavers and agro producers sell their produce directly to the consumers, District Samba administration has launched an Instagram page “BoboDiSandukhdi” which literally means a sister’s box in Dogri culture.
Looked after by Assistant Director, Handicraft, Samba, the platform will showcase the art of the artisans, weavers and special agro products of Samba on the Instagram page from where the consumers can directly place orders to buy the products.
Brainchild of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Samba, Anuradha Gupta, the Instagram page is currently selling handcrafted art items made of bamboo, jute, wild grasses, and silk. Paintings and the Dogra cuisines are the other items that are being sold through the Instagram page.
“There are several Instagram pages that have millions of subscribers and they’re doing a great business. So, the objective of our Instagram page is to help the local artisans, weavers, and agro producers who find it difficult to sell their produce,” DC Samba Anuradha Gupta told Rising Kashmir.
According to her, there are 26000-28000 women associated with almost 2800 registered self-help-groups (SHGs) in Samba district alone.
“And almost all the self-help-groups are making some kind of products. But they’re not getting the marketing related support. So, we did it for them,” the DC Samba said.
Gupta said that BobodiSandukhdi is not only an Instagram page but a brand for all the products of Samba to be sold from a common platform.
Asked whether she’s planning to tie up with major business conglomerates in future to provide better earning opportunities to the producers of Samba, she said: “right now we have been trying to keep things simple but maybe, in future, we will do that as well.”
“Our government departmental stores established in different parts of the District are already helping the producers sell their produce to the consumers,” she added.
One of the artists of Samba’s Bari Brahamana area, Shivali Sharma, 30, wife of Vivek Sharma said that she’s overwhelmed with the government’s initiative.
“I was already selling my art work through my Instagram page. But a government page would definitely help us reach more people, which means more exposure and more earning opportunities,” she said while thanking DC Samba, Anuradha Gupta.
It is important to mention here that the project was inaugurated by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar.
