Jammu, May 12 : National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today undertook an extensive visit to various shelter camps established for border residents displaced due to recent cross border shelling from Pakistan along the International Border and Line of Control in the Jammu periphery.

During his visit, Sadhotra commended the proactive and humanitarian response of the Omar Abdullah-led government and appreciated the role of various socio-voluntary organizations in supplementing relief and rehabilitation measures.

Sadhotra visited the Sahib Bandgi Ashram Shelter Lodgment Centre at Mishriwala in Jammu where several affected families from the Pargwal and Palanwalla sector have been accommodated for their safety. Interacting with the displaced families, he expressed deep sympathy and solidarity for their ordeal and assured them of continued support from both the government and civil society. He said the temporary displacement is a painful consequence of border tensions, but expressed optimism that the situation would stabilize in the wake of the ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan.

Calling for an end to hostilities and the pursuit of sustained peace, Sadhotra emphasized, “Peace must be given a fair chance. The lives and livelihoods of innocent civilians cannot be held hostage to geopolitical tensions. Restraint must replace violence and uncertainty.”

He complimented the valiant armed forces for thwarting the Air attacks from the Pakistan army on the civilian population, saying they have got a lesson for not daring to misadventure again.

He also referred to the recent visit of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to several affected areas across Jammu and Kashmir, including those impacted by border shelling and said the Chief Minister’s outreach has reassured the affected population and underlined the compassionate and responsive character of a democratic government.“Such engagements by the leadership build trust and bring a much-needed sense of belonging to people who face adversity,” Sadhotra said.
