Renowned eye surgeon Dr Sajjad Fazili honoured with ‘excellence award’ at National Ophthalmology Conference

New Delhi, Aug 30:  At the recently concluded Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Cornea and Keratorefractive Surgeons, held from August 1 to August 3 in New Delhi, renowned ophthalmologist from the Valley, Dr. Sajjad Fazili, was conferred with this year’s prestigious “Excellence Award”.A statement issued here said that Dr. Fazili is the Director of Fazili Eye Care Centre, which has recently entered into a collaboration with Centre for Sight, the largest eye hospital chain in North India. A pioneer of micro-incision cataract and refractive surgery in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Fazili has earned an impressive academic and surgical reputation on both national and international platforms. Internationally respected for his surgical expertise, Dr. Fazili is a regular contributor at major global ophthalmology forums. He has presented at numerous prestigious conferences, including the World Ophthalmology Congress, Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and South Asia Academy of Ophthalmology.Nationally, he continues to be a key faculty member at the All-India Ophthalmological Society, North Zone Ophthalmological Society and several other state-level societies. During his tenure in government service, Dr. Fazili made significant contributions to public healthcare. As the youngest A-Grade Specialist in the Department of Health, he was instrumental in establishing the Ophthalmology Department at JLNM Hospital, which continues to deliver exemplary eye care in the Valley. After resigning from government service at the age of 45, he transitioned into private practice, where he has earned widespread acclaim and respect. His institution, Fazili Eye Care Centre in Baghat, Srinagar, established 26 years ago, is equipped with cutting-edge technology, placing it among India’s leading eye hospitals. His early adoption and promotion of micro-incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery positioned him among the pioneers of this technique in India. Dr. Fazili’s career has been marked by innovation, precision, and reliability. In 2019, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India for his outstanding contributions to ophthalmology. He has also been honoured by the Jaipur Ophthalmological Society, Delhi Ophthalmological Society, and the North Zone Ophthalmological Society. A former General Secretary and President of the Kashmir Ophthalmological Society, Dr. Fazili remains a guiding force and inspiration to young ophthalmologists across the country. His work continues to be a source of pride for Kashmir — a true son of the soil whose vision has illuminated many lives.
