Jammu, March 31: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Mayor, Rajinder Sharma on Friday thanked the people of the city for adhering to its appeal of not polluting the Tawi River during Ramnavami and immersion of Saankh.
While addressing a press conference, the mayor said that the people have set an example by not polluting the Tawi River and instead immersed the Saankh in the Ranbir Canal.
He also thanked the MC Khalsa College and University of Jammu (JU), Dogra Law College, Galaxy College, Government Degree College Bhagwati Nagar, Govt Degree College Sidhra and others for their cooperation in ensuring pollution-free immersion of Saankh.
Sharma said that some nallahs have been polluting the River Tawi and that a proposal has been made to divert these nallas toward the fields so that the river is not polluted and the fields are irrigated.
The mayor said that the JMC will soon launch a mass campaign to eradicate the menace of polythene by organising a marathon by involving different schools and NGOs to spread the message of awareness among people about the harmful effects of polythene.
