Jammu, March 08: Qazigund town, also known as the “Gateway of Kashmir,” is undergoing significant development, with several projects aimed at enhancing its infrastructure. These include beautification efforts, the construction of a Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower), and other development initiatives, the government stated in response to a question raised by an MLA.
Abdul Majid Larmi, MLA from Anantnag West, whose constituency also includes Qazigund, asked the government whether Qazigund is recognized as the gateway town of Kashmir and, if so, whether there are plans for its development.
In a written response to this unstarred question, the Chief Minister, who is also the Minister in charge of the Housing and Urban Development Department, said that Qazigund is indeed (yes) known as the gateway of Kashmir and provided details of the ongoing developmental projects.
The government said that various initiatives have been undertaken, including the beautification of Qazigund town, the construction of a community or marriage hall, a slaughterhouse, and a Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower), as well as the development of a playground (Stadium). Other projects include the establishment of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), drainage development, the installation of LED street lights, and a water supply scheme under AMRUT 2.0. Besides, under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), the town is being further developed.
Meanwhile an official told Rising Kashmir that the town’s beautification is underway. The construction of the marriage hall is almost 80–90% complete, while the slaughterhouse is 70–80% complete. The Ghanta Ghar is under the tendering process, and the playground has already been tendered. The solid waste management system is complete and functional. Drainage work is set to begin in a day or two, and streetlights are already operational. Meanwhile, the water supply project under AMRUT is in the tendering phase at the PHE office in Qazigund.
