Jammu, Apr 01: Priya Sethi, former minister and national executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Monday highlighted the significant strides made by the Modi government in empowering women, citing various policies and initiatives that have garnered support from women across the nation.
Speaking at a function where State Secretary of the Women’s Wing, Geeta Dogra and her team from the Congress Party joined the BJP, Sethi highlighted the transformative impact of the government’s initiatives on women’s lives.
Sethi underscored achievements such as granting women equal rights in Jammu and Kashmir, constructing toilets nationwide, ensuring voting rights for refugees and the Valmiki Samaj, and abolishing triple talaq, which has resonated with women and prompted many to join the BJP.
“Attracting women from diverse backgrounds, our daughters, sisters, and mothers are joining the BJP to contribute to nation-building and reinforce the party’s mission of building a stronger India,” Sethi remarked.
She attributed the growing support for the BJP among women to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to improving women’s lives, citing initiatives like access to clean cooking gas, electricity, and piped water in remote areas, as well as the direct transfer of subsidies and benefits into bank accounts, which has curtailed corruption and middlemen interference.
“Under Modi’s leadership, women are no longer marginalized. They have become active participants in the nation’s progress,” she added.
Welcoming the new entrants to the BJP, Priya emphasized the party’s ethos of selfless service and reiterated its focus on empowering women through concrete policies rather than mere political rhetoric.
Reflecting on the shortcomings of previous governments, the BJP leader pointed out the lack of basic amenities like toilets and piped water during the Congress’s decades-long rule, particularly affecting women. She highlighted Modi’s Jan Dhan Yojana, which facilitated access to banking services for millions of women across the country, thereby fostering financial inclusion and empowerment.
Furthermore, Sethi said the BJP is committed to women’s representation in governance, advocating for 33% reservation for women in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, a move she believes will ensure women’s voices are heard in policy-making processes.
She expressed confidence that the BJP’s pro-women policies and inclusive vision will continue to attract women from all walks of life, empowering them to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s future.
