Ganderbal, May 23: In response to the ongoing heatwave and predictions of a further spike in temperatures, authorities in Ganderbal and Rural Srinagar have issued an urgent advisory urging citizens to use drinking water responsibly. The Jal Shakti Department has emphasised the importance of water conservation to ensure adequate supply for all residents during this critical period.
The use of potable water for non-essential purposes—including watering of lawns and gardens, construction activities, and the operation of online water boosting motors—has been strictly prohibited. Authorities warn that such practices are not only unethical and wasteful during a water crisis but also punishable under the Jammu & Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act, 2010.
“It is a collective responsibility to conserve water, especially during these extreme conditions,” a spokesperson from the Jal Shakti PHE Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal stated. Adding, “Misuse of drinking water threatens the availability of this essential resource for the community.”
The department has appealed to all residents, especially in Ganderbal and Rural Srinagar, to refrain from engaging in any unauthorized use of drinking water. Unregistered consumers are also urged to get registered via the Single Window System portal of the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
To address grievances and ensure uninterrupted water supply, a 24×7 Control Room has been established at the Office of the Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti PHE Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal. Citizens can contact the control room or the designated officials directly for any water-related issues:
These include, Divisional Control Room: 0194-2416292, Mr. Suhail Ahmad Bhat (Ganderbal Sub-Division): 9797093722, Mr. Uzair Ahmad Pathan (Kangan Sub-Division): 6005260117 / 9070523100, Mr. Jeet Raj (Srinagar Sub-Division)
Residents have been requested to cooperate fully and play their part in conserving water during these trying climatic conditions.
