Srinagar, July 01: Prominent veteran trade leader of Kashmir, Sampat Prakash passed away on Saturday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. He was 85.
Medical Superintendent Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Dr Farooq Jan told Rising Kashmir that Sampat Prakash suffered a massive cardiac arrest. He was brought to the hospital around 5 pm and was declared dead on arrival by the team of doctors, he said.
Sampat Prakash, son of Late Neelkanth Krandu, a resident of Shaheedi Chowk Jammu, was a great advocate of harmony among various religious, social, ethnic and political identities in Kashmir.
He promoted inter-faith dialogue between Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims and Sikhs throughout his life. Over the past several years, the veteran leader gained popularity among the people for his speeches and interviews on social media.
Several political leaders, trade bodies and civil society groups expressed condolence over the demise. Among those included Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, and business leader Sheikh Ashiq.
