The Srinagar police have apprehended a juvenile in connection with a shocking stabbing incident that left a 45-year-old man dead in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar.

The victim, who vehemently opposed his daughter’s relationship with the accused, tragically lost his life after being stabbed multiple times by the accused.

The Superintendent of Police for South Srinagar, Gaurav Sikarwar, addressed a press conference regarding the incident. He stated that on Tuesday, the man was found unconscious in the Batmaloo area of Srinagar and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Further examination revealed multiple injuries inflicted on his body by a sharp weapon.

“In response to the incident, the Batmaloo Police Station registered FIR 67/2023 and launched an investigation. The investigative team visited the crime scene, where they discovered a pool of blood. Utilizing CCTV footage and technical assistance, the police were able to make significant progress in cracking the case,” the SP said.

As a result of the technical support, several individuals were questioned, leading to the identification of the main suspect. The accused admitted to the crime, revealing that he was involved in a relationship with the deceased’s daughter. The man’s opposition to their relationship had led to heated arguments, culminating in the juvenile attacking and gravely injuring him. Sadly, the victim succumbed to his injuries, Sikarwar said.

According to the police officer, the accused had purchased a knife five months prior and had been awaiting the right moment to carry out the crime. On Tuesday evening, he seized an opportunity to stab the man multiple times in the neck. Subsequently, the accused fled the scene. The police apprehended him and recovered the knife, along with his blood-soaked shirt and trouser.

The SP South emphasized that no witnesses were present in the lane when the incident occurred. However, he assured the public that further investigations were ongoing and that additional details would be shared with the press in due course.

The prompt action taken by the Srinagar police in solving the stabbing case within 24 hours has been lauded by the local community. The arrest of the juvenile suspect and his confession provide a sense of justice to the grieving family and highlight the police’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the region.
