Baramulla, July 03: Police on Monday launched a comprehensive drive to combat reckless driving practices that led to numerous accidents and fatalities in recent months in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police official said the focus is primarily on stunt biking, triple riding, driving without helmets, and rash and negligent driving. “Baramulla Police aims to create safer roads for law-abiding citizens,” he said.
The drive was led by Inspector Waseem Jahangir, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Kunzer. “A significant breakthrough was achieved as a total of 35 two-wheelers involved in stunt biking and triple riding were seized in the town. 35 violators were also booked,” he said.
The official said that a case was registered in the Police Station Kunzer and a thorough investigation into the matter was initiated. The intensive drive aims to not only eradicate traffic violations but also serve as a strong deterrent for potential violators in the future, he said.
The general public hailed the concerted efforts of the police. They underscored the importance of curbing traffic violations and establishing a secure environment for all road users and visitors to public spaces.
Police also urged the public to exercise caution while riding, prioritise the use of helmets, and diligently follow traffic rules and regulations.
Earlier on Friday, police in Baramulla confiscated 34 motorcycles engaged in reckless stunt biking and triple riding. All 34 individuals were booked for violating traffic regulations in the Kunzer and Tangmarg towns of the district.
