Srinagar, June 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and the Army have busted a narco-terror network in Karnah, Kupwara in north Kashmir and three persons have been arrested in this connection.
A police official said that based on an intelligence input that an individual was attempting to find buyers for heroin, a trap was laid, leading to the apprehension of two persons with approximately 500 grams of heroin.
“The apprehended persons have been identified as Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh, son of the late MohdShafi Sheikh, resident of KhawarparaKarnah, and Tariq Ahmad Malik, son of Gh. Ahmad Malik, resident of Baghballa.”
The official said that further investigation revealed the involvement of another individual, Parvez Ahmed Pathan, resident of Sadhpura, who was in possession of three pistols.
“In a swift joint operation by Police and the Army, Parvez was apprehended. The raid resulted in the recovery of three pistols, 76 pistol rounds, six pistol magazines, and approximately 5 kilograms of suspected explosives,” he said.
Meanwhile FIR has been registered, and further interrogations and investigations are ongoing.
“We remain steadfast in their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism,” he added.
On Friday, Police rewarded 5 border residents of Nowshera sector, who foiled a major cross border narco smuggling bid, which led to recovery of massive consignment in April this year.
“The UT administration sanctioned reward money valuing 4 Lakhs in favour of 05 border residents for their heroic display of brave and patriotic act,” he said.
He said narco smuggling bid was foiled in Village Makdi, which is one of the villages located ahead of Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS), referred to as LoC fence.
