Police books habitual offenders under PSA, PIT NDPS Act in Kupwara

In a decisive move against habitual offenders involved in timber smuggling and drug trafficking, Police in Kupwara have booked several notorious individuals under stringent preventive laws including the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act).

Three well-known timber smugglers namely Tariq Ahmad Bhat son of Sabir Bhat, Waseem Ahmad Bhat son of Sonullah Bhat and Farooq Ahmad Bhat son of Sabir Bhat, all residents of Kantpora Lalpora have been booked under PSA vide orders 24-DMK/PSA, 25-DMK/PSA, and 26-DMK/PSA dated 28-08-2025. These individuals have been shifted to Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu and District Jail Udhampur.

Additionally in a separate action against drug trafficking Jaffar Ahmad Sheikh son of Gh. Mohd Sheikh resident of Trehgam has been booked under the PIT NDPS Act vide order DIV.COM-“K”/204/2023 dated 27-12-2023. He has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu.

These actions are part of J&K Police’s ongoing efforts to dismantle networks of organized timber smuggling and narcotics distribution in the district. The department remains committed to safeguarding the environment, protecting the economy and ensuring public health by acting decisively against such criminal elements.

J&K Police reaffirms its resolve to continue its relentless fight against timber smuggling and drug peddling through stringent legal measures and community cooperation.
