Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and recovered huge quantity of contraband substance from his possession.
A Police spokesperson said, “Under the supervision of SSP Shopian Tanushree-IPS, a police party of Police Post Keegam at a checkpoint established at Peerpora Rakh Chidren crossing, intercepted a vehicle (Tata ACE Zip) bearing registration No. JK13D-3235. During search of the said vehicle, 08 nylon bags filled with Poppy straw like substance (weighing about 236Kgs) were recovered. The driver of the said vehicle namely Mohd Ashraf Mir son of Gh Mohiudin Mir resident of Arihal Pulwama has been arrested besides vehicle used in commission of crime has also been seized on the spot.”
“In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 63/2024 under sections of law has been registered in Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated”, he said.
