New Delhi, March 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated India’s Sepak Takraw team for their remarkable performance at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025, where they clinched seven medals, including the country’s first-ever gold in the Men’s Regu event.
Describing the achievement as a “spectacular performance,” the Prime Minister called it a promising milestone for India’s future in the global Sepak Takraw arena. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote: “Congratulations to our contingent for displaying phenomenal sporting excellence at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025! The team brings home seven medals, with the Men’s Regu team creating history by securing India’s first Gold. This outstanding achievement signals a bright future for India in the global Sepak Takraw arena.”
Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, also lauded Team India for their historic seven-medal haul, particularly praising the Men’s team for their maiden gold medal victory. “Heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning seven medals at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025! A special mention to our Men’s team for securing the first-ever Gold Medal in this event. Your dedication and perseverance will inspire aspiring athletes across the nation. Wishing you all continued success,” Mandaviya posted on X.
The Indian Men’s Regu team was crowned world champions on Tuesday, clinching the gold at the 2025 Sepak Takraw World Cup in Patna, Bihar. Backed by a spirited home crowd, India triumphed over Japan 2-1 in the final match.
Despite a rocky start, losing the first game 11-15, the hosts made a stunning comeback, winning the second game 15-11 and forcing a deciding set. In a nail-biting finale, India edged past Japan 17-14, securing a historic victory and cementing their place among the world’s Sepak Takraw elite.
