Baramulla, Nov 17: Nighat Dar, a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), shared her heartfelt gratitude for the government’s support in turning her dream of owning a home into a reality in Reban village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
Living with her husband and three children for eight years in a tin shed, Nighat’s family faced the challenges of extreme weather conditions, enduring harsh winters and scorching summers without the comfort of a proper dwelling.
“We used to live a miserable life. Living in a tin shed for eight long years with small children isn’t an easy job. During the harsh winters, it was extremely hard to survive. We always longed to own a house and a happy family,” she told Rising Kashmir.
Nighat expressed her appreciation for the concerted efforts of the LG administration, district officials, block officials, and the panchayat, all of whom played pivotal roles in helping her family escape their previous living conditions.
“During the harsh winters or summers, my family, especially the kids, were suffering terribly in the tin shed, but thanks to the LG administration, district administration, block officials, and panchayat who helped my family to come out of this miserable life,” Nighat shared.
She conveyed her gratitude to the government for providing them with a home, stating that they no longer have to endure the challenges of their previous living conditions.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), a flagship mission of the Government of India implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), was launched on June 25, 2015.
The mission aims to address the urban housing shortage for economically weaker sections (EWS), lower-income groups (LIG), and middle-income groups (MIG), including slum dwellers, by ensuring a permanent house for all eligible urban households.
A revenue official said that the transformative impact of the PM Awas Yojana on the Reban family and others, reflects the government’s commitment to providing dignified living conditions for families across the nation.
