Srinagar, Aug 15: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri has commended cooperation extended by the common people towards administration to ensure a successful 77th Independence Day celebration.
Speaking to mediapersons at the newly established Srinagar Square, Bidhuri said that people had requested for entry passes to attend the main Independence Day event at Bakshi Stadium. To accommodate their wishes, identity cards were considered valid passes, he added.
On Tuesday morning, long queues were witnessed at Bakshi Stadium as authorities encouraged people from all walks of life to join the Independence Day function. Scores of people could be seen in serpentine queues outside the stadium.
Bidhuri highlighted participation of school children in the Independence Day celebrations, while urging youth to stay “engaged in positive activities instead of indulging in anti-social acts.”
Bidhuri said the drug menace in Kashmir was a challenge and assured that strict action was being taken to combat it.
“In the spirit of unity and patriotism, the Independence Day celebration united residents of Srinagar. The event not only showcased the joyous participation of citizens but also highlighted the city’s commitment to upholding values of freedom and dignity,” the Div Com said. The Divisional Commissioner said emphasis was being laid for combating negative influences like drug abuse and further reinforced the community’s dedication to a better future. It may be mentioned that Bakshi Stadium hosted the Independence Day function after a gap of five years after its renovation work started in 2018.
