Jammu, Jun 13: “Despite installing smart meters and paying bills regularly, residents of Jammu are facing hours-long power cuts during the scorching heat, leading to severe hardships. Water supply has also been affected, while the government and administration, including public representatives, remain silent spectators,” Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu-Kashmir unit president Manish Sahni said on Friday.
In a statement issued here, Sahni reminded the Lieutenant Governor of the government’s promise of providing a 24-hour power supply in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed concern that, even after installing smart meters and paying bills on time, the power outages continue unabated. These prolonged outages during extreme heat have made life difficult for residents, he said.
“If such conditions persist despite technological measures and timely payments, one can only imagine the situation when the government fulfils its promise of free electricity,” he said.
The Shiv Sena leader also questioned the silence of BJP MLAs elected from the Jammu division, criticising their lack of response to the ongoing crisis. He appealed to the public to plant at least one tree to help combat environmental issues.
