Jammu, Jan 07: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday paid tributes to party founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on his eighth death anniversary here.
In this regard, senior PDP leader Narinder Sharma along with hundreds of others from RS Pura paid rich tributes to Mufti Sayeed at the party headquarters in Gandhi Nagar.
Paying tributes, Narinder highlighted the role of Mufti Sayeed and recalled that the party founder had an amicable demeanour and enormous courage to take on varied challenges during his six-and-a-half decade-long political career.
“Mufti Mohammad Sayeed rejuvenated the hope for peaceful Jammu and Kashmir as he took a series of confidence-building measures. He made strenuous efforts to make peace an inseparable feature of Jammu and Kashmir. Even towards the last days of his life, he recalled that Mufti Sayeed gave utmost priority to his people,” he said.
The PDP leader called for taking forward Mufti Sayeed’s mission and urged people to strengthen the party at all levels. He underlined that there was a need to promote young leaders and hoped that the party leadership would take the necessary steps to realize the endeavour in line with the mission of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Praying for peace to the departed soul, Narinder said, “The bereavement was not restricted to party President Mehbooba Mufti but the entire PDP family.” He castigated the BJP over its “dubious role” towards Jammu and Kashmir, saying, “Even when the people in Jammu voted in droves for the party during the polls, it backstabbed them, denying the coming generation the livelihood opportunities in a ruthless manner”.
Sharma asked the party functionaries to work with greater coordination and strengthen the PDP on the ground. “At this crucial juncture of history, it is the PDP alone that can steer the ship to the shore and time has proven beyond doubt that the party has stood steadfast every time against all odds to safeguard Jammu and Kashmir’s core interests,” he said.
