Srinagar, Oct 07: Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday slammed Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari over his remarks on the Waqf Board, saying that Waqf is an institution of faith and the collective property of the community.
In a statement issued here, PDP spokesperson Rouf Bhat said, “Regrettably, certain families have exploited Waqf resources for personal gain over the years. It is clear that Bukhari’s frustration stems from his profit-oriented mindset, similar to his actions that negatively impacted the horticulture industry in Kashmir. Nonetheless, it is crucial to emphasise that Waqf belongs to all of us, transcending any particular family or merchant.”
He said that Mufti Sayeed’s legacy includes the establishment of the Islamic University, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, paramedical colleges for girls, schools, and providing monthly assistance to the poor and orphans through Waqf resources.
“Presently, the Waqf is being politically manipulated; however, those who grasped its true purpose understand that it cannot be exploited or its properties sold for personal gain,” Bhat said.
The spokesperson added, “Altaf Bukhari is known for promoting crony capitalism and viewing institutions as commodities for buying and selling. Individuals who reduce politics to a mere marketplace and attempt to auction people can’t lecture us on matters of faith and religion.”
