Anantnag, Dec 27: Senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Shahabad-Breng constituency in-charge, Mohammad Ashraf Malik has expressed concern over critical developmental challenges during his recent visits to various areas in the region.
Calling for urgent intervention, he urged authorities to address pressing issues impacting education, healthcare and infrastructure.
Malik expressed concern over the inadequate facilities at Dooru College, which according to him is operating with minimal infrastructure. He sought immediate expansion to meet student needs.
The PDP leader highlighted the plight of the non-operational Ganaipora filtration plant, which is completed but has yet to supply water. This has left residents struggling for potable water, he said.
“Healthcare facilities are in dire straits, with hospitals in Verinag and Kapran facing severe staff shortages,” he said. Malik urged the authorities to upgrade Verinag to Sub-District Hospital status and revive Kapran’s functionality.
He added, “The unused Dooru maternity hospital, now a site for drug abuse, also requires urgent attention. There are poor road conditions in Mantpora and Dehruna-Boon.”
Malik said he has taken this issue with R&B officials who have assured him that the roads will be repaired.
The PDP leader added that Nagam Halqa faces frequent power outages caused by faulty panels, demanding uninterrupted supply for metered areas. He also sought municipal status for Verinag.
