Jammu, Oct 28: Taking a dig at People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for advising India over minority elected as United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri Friday said that India is a step ahead and had accepted dynasts like her till yesterday but those days are over now and today, leaders from within the masses are holding highest public offices.
Raman Suri said that India, being one of the largest democracies, has always stayed open to electing public representatives irrespective of their caste, creed or religion, which is why India has seen its Prime Ministers and Presidents besides those who held other highest public offices from different regions, communities and sects. This is strange that Mehbooba Mufti chose to compare United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s elections to advise India and divide people here on the basis of caste or religion.
Suri added, India being the strongest democracy doesn’t need any such ill advice from anyone, especially from those who have been promoting dynastic politics and dividing people on the basis of caste, region and religion. He said that if the United Kingdom has accepted an ethnic minority member as its leader, the people of Jammu and Kashmir too had accepted dynasties for the simple reason that they, surpassing their senior colleagues, came through an electoral battle.
He further said that the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which Mufti has been criticising, is a register of all Indian citizens made with a purpose to document all the legal citizens of India so that the illegal immigrants can be identified and deported. Another, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, which allowed persecuted religious minorities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan like Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians to come and settle in India, also came under Mufti’s criticism. If pondered over, then there is nothing wrong in these Acts which she has criticised for no reasons.
Raman Suri said that this indeed is a proud moment for us that UK will have its first Indian origin PM but why is this irking Mufti, who wants to compare it to our democracy where we had Presidents and heads of various institutions from different communities and regions. He added that politicians like Mehbooba and others belonging to the National Conference or even Congress had been suppressing the people of Jammu and Ladakh, playing divisive politics, manipulating assembly and even Parliament, and such leaders are again trying to play dirty politics to keep the kettle of their hatred boiling, which is not going to happen now.
