Jammu, Jan 05: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders distributed blankets to the needy people of Kotli Shah Doula in RS Pura on Sunday.
This initiative was taken in loving memory of former J&K Chief Minister Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, according to a statement issued here.
The distribution, done by incharge RS Pura Jammu South Narinder Sharma and Karan Singh, PDP incharge Suchetgarh constituency, was aimed at providing immediate relief to those affected by the harsh winter chill.
Narinder and Karan Singh appealed to the party cadre of RS Pura and Suchetgarh constituencies to participate in a tribute program at the party headquarters in Jammu on January 7, 2025, to pay tributes to Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on his death anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion, they said, “As winter chill turns harsh with each passing day, we decided to spread warmth among the less privileged people of the society by carrying on blanket distribution drive to protect them from severe cold during night. Blankets, a fundamental necessity during cold weather, become a source of solace and protection for those who may not have access to adequate shelter or heating.
They said the objective of the initiative was to provide immediate help by way of giving some relief to the needy people to protect themselves from this extreme cold wave, particularly during night hours. “These initiatives not only address immediate needs but also contribute to the overall well-being of the community by promoting compassion, solidarity, and humanitarian values,” they added.
Speaking on the occasion, Narinder said, “One of the last politicians in Jammu & Kashmir who had grown into the mould of an upright and unblemished statesman, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed represented courage of conviction and a lifelong political struggle spanning over five decades. His vision for the state of Jammu & Kashmir as a distinct feature of the idea of India is complemented by the clear-cut democratic construct of his political thought, an inclusive polity and ingenious development.”
