Kulgam, July 20: On Sunday, Pahloo Eleven claimed the title in the grand finale of the Manzgam Cricket Board (MCB) tournament, defeating Ladgoo Eleven in a high-octane contest at the Manzgam cricket ground, one of the largest grassroots cricketing events in South Kashmir this year.Batting first, Ladgoo Eleven posted a total of 172 runs before being bowled out in 19.4 overs. In response, Pahloo Eleven chased down the target in just 14.4 overs, thanks to a sensational century by Zubair Bashir. The all-rounder was named both Man of the Match and Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the competition.MCB President Shahnaz Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that 64 teams from across Kulgam district took part in the tournament, which witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of spectators from beginning to end. “This event has been a remarkable success. The level of participation and sportsmanship reflects the growing interest in cricket across the region,” Ahmad said. The final was attended by District Development Council (DDC) member Choudhary Jameela, who served as chief guest, alongside the Station House Officer (SHO) of Manzgam. Jameela praised MCB’s efforts in promoting sports and reiterated the administration’s commitment to empowering local youth through improved sports infrastructure. “We have brought the Manzgam ground to a level where even district teams are now playing here,” she said during the presentation ceremony. “Our aim is to develop it further to meet the aspirations of our young sportspersons.”The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 70,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 and a trophy. Zubair Bashir was also honoured with individual accolades and a special cash award for his exceptional contribution.
