With 14867 megawatts of hydropower potential coursing through its waters, J&K has potential to become a powerhouse of clean energy in India. Yet, despite this vast promise, only a fraction—3,500 megawatts—has been harnessed to date. Of this, a significant share of 2250 megawatts has been developed by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
The Jammu & Kashmir Government on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that the UT of J&K has estimated hydropower potential of 18000 megawatts, out of which 14867 megawatts have been identified.
