Pulwama, March 13: Authorities in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district are buoyed by the prospect of unveiling the refurbished Rahmoo bridge to the public by May of this year.
This pivotal infrastructure, spanning the Romeshi rivulet, holds profound significance as it links numerous villages in Pulwama with the historic destinations of Pakherpora and Chari Sharief in Budgam district, frequented by a multitude of devotees from across Kashmir.
The bridge, devastated during the catastrophic deluge of September 2014, has been undergoing reconstruction efforts since 2016.
However, the journey to restoration was not without hurdles, as locals witnessed a pause in the work following the initial laying of plinths by the Jammu & Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC).
Locals of the village said that resumption of the reconstruction endeavours occurred only after Dr. Basharat Qayoom assumed the mantle of DC Pulwama.
Executive Engineer of R&B Pulwama, Javid Ahmad Dar, shed light on the project’s transition from JKPCC’s jurisdiction to theirs.
He informed that despite encountering technical challenges with the third span, notable progress has been achieved, with two slabs laid during the winter months.
He said that the remaining issues have been duly escalated to higher authorities for resolution.
He revealed that both the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the DC Pulwama are fervently committed to expediting the completion of the Rahmoo bridge project for public use.
He said that their concerted efforts are aimed at opening the bridge by April-May, barring any impediments such as funding shortages.
The slated completion timeframe is set for the end of May, with preparatory activities underway, encompassing the readiness of road approaches and the impending commencement of macdemisation work post May.
